Crown of Midnight

Crown of Midnight - Sarah J. Maas

After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king's contest to become the new royal assassin. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown – a secret she hides from even her most intimate confidantes.

Keeping up the deadly charade—while pretending to do the king's bidding—will test her in frightening new ways, especially when she's given a task that could jeopardize everything she's come to care for. And there are far more dangerous forces gathering on the horizon -- forces that threaten to destroy her entire world, and will surely force Celaena to make a choice.

Where do the assassin’s loyalties lie, and who is she most willing to fight for?

THOUGHTS:
After reading the first book, I fell in love with the series completely! I became such a fan. If you haven't read the first book, please check out my review for it by clicking Throne of Glass.

I love the characters in the story and I like the fighting. I particular like how the author heard my telepathic OTP message! I like how the author went against the typical YA story, where usually the main character gets with the royal "prince." If you haven't read the first book, please read it before continuing!

My thoughts for the second book was a slight disappointment. There was a lot of fighting, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I think what did it for me was the lack of sass from Celaena and lack of understanding of the story. Personally, I don't understand how the Fae came to being or left, and where did the magic go. In the book, there would mention about the Fae's history and the "magic," but I don't feel that there was enough explanation for all the mystery the author set in the first book. However, I did like all the moments Celaena and Chaol were together. It was all hot, bothering, and passionate. In the end, I think it was a good book, and a nice sequel. I still rated this book really high, because the characters are just incredible and I like a lot of action.

Reading the sequel didn't deter me from reading the third book called Heir of Fire, coming out September 2014. In the second book, the author left such a BIG cliffhanger, so I am excited for the next book to come out! Please read Crown of Midnight and it's first book, Throne of Glass.
