Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea - April Tucholke

Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town… until River West comes along. River rents the guest house behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard.

Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more?

Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery... who makes you want to kiss back.

Violet’s already so knee-deep in love, she can’t see straight. And that’s just how River likes it.

THOUGHTS:

Wow. It was.... Well as you can see I am speechless. I thought the book was at times creepy, but it very much so mesmerizing. The author did such a good job of making the main character, Violet, so captivating. Violet's mind makes you want to read more about her. She is a character, whom is perspective and intelligent. When I read her thoughts or her feelings, I clutch the book in my hands, because whatever she says is so interesting.

This book has mystery, crimes and "magic." There is also a bit of romance in this book, but the plot of story overshadows the love introduced (I think). I recommend this book. I thought it was a very interesting read. I love the main character and the puzzle of the mysterious man, River, as well as other mysterious things happening.

I think the book was good, but there were moments were it was a little bit too scary for my taste. Due to my sensitivity, I had to give it 0.5 lower than it should really be.

2nd book called Between the Spark and the Burn is coming out August 2014! Watch out for it!
