The Falconer

The Falconer - Elizabeth May
She's a stunner.
Edinburgh, 1844. Eighteen-year-old Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, has everything a girl could dream of: brains, charm, wealth, a title — and drop-dead beauty.

She's a liar.
But Aileana only looks the part of an aristocratic young lady. She's leading a double life: She has the rare ability to sense the sìthichean — the faery race obsessed with slaughtering humans — and, with the aid of a mysterious mentor, has spent the year since her mother died learning how to kill them.

She's a murderer.
Now Aileana is dedicated to slaying the fae before they take innocent lives. With her abilities and her knack for inventing ingenious tools and weapons — from flying machines to detonators to lightning pistols — ruthless Aileana has one goal: Destroy the faery who destroyed her mother.

She's a Falconer.
The last in a line of female warriors born with the gift for hunting and killing the fae, Aileana is the sole hope of preventing a powerful faery population from massacring all of humanity. Suddenly, her quest is a lot more complicated. She still longs to avenge her mother's murder — but she'll have to save the world first.

THOUGHTS:

Personally, I love books that are set in historic times. This book was set in the 1800s, where women were to dressed proper, attend parties, and find suitors. What I liked about this book was that the main character Aileanna is no lady, but a night vigilante who kills demons. She is similar to Batman. She goes to these lavish parties and then sneaks out to fight demons. I think she is a such an independent character and free thinker. I like not only is she portrayed as a strong character, but also broken. Her reason for fighting has something to do with her past. I think characters like these are very compelling and interesting to read, because they bring life and adventure to the story.

In the story, the author introduces a love interest whom I really like. He is not a gentleman, but the other half of what Aileanna is. I think they are a great pair. Totally shipping them together :)

2nd book has been titled yet nor announced when it will be published. I think this book is good and and a fast read. I read it within 2 days, but that was because I was on break. I recommend this book to those who like adventure, action, strong characters, and Batman fan.
