The 5th Wave

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

 THOUGHTS:

Overall, the book was good. I was a little neglected to read it, because I have read a lot of books that is set in post-Apocalypse. I wanted a change of plot, but I know from other book critics this is a popular book to review about. The 5th Wave has a very interesting plot twist when the author gets to it. I think for me it had too many flashbacks, well not too many but long~ draggy flashbacks. Not only were there long winded flashbacks, but too many flipping POV between characters. Sometimes I would get uninterested in a character's POV, because the other character's story is more exciting and compelling to read. I adore the couple Evan and Sarah! Instinctively, I believe in the 2nd book of this series, the author will try to push Cassie with Brian. Brian is Cassie's unrequited crush before the Apocalypse happened, therefore Cassie will have suppressed feelings toward Brain. However, when Brian was away (not knowing he was alive), Cassie met Evan, who is attractive and helps Cassie in her journey. Personally, I love Evan, because Evan connects with Cassie on a intimate level unlike Brian, who is just a "crush." If you like adventure, post-Apocalyptic world, you will like this book.
