I know that YA novels are becoming a big thing for film writers to take and make a movie out of. However, I think it is becoming a bit too much. I have to say Harry Potter and Twilight were great! I love the books and I liked the movies. Others would disagree that the books are always better than the movies, because the movie did not do the book justice. I agree as well, especially for the series Twilight. Back to the point, it wasn't until Hunger Games did people started to get the idea of making more YA books into movies. Well I take that back Twilight was the culprit, but Hunger Games really (whoosh) made things go flying out the window. People started going crazy. I was one of them. The writers then started picking up books like Divergent and The Mortal Instruments, which are both fantastic series. (If you have not visited my fandom page, I am a big fan of Cassandra Clare. I thinks her works are marvelous. If you have time, I encourage you to go buy one of her works, preferably The Mortal Instruments.)
Personally, I think producers now just want to make money, and in today's market books going into movies are super popular. Not only are they making a lot from the box office, but also the franchise like t-shirts, toys, posters, everything that you can buy from Hot Topic. I know many people will have different opinions about this, but I do not really like the casting they do for books turning into movies. I do not agree with the person portraying Jace, Tris, Bella, I mean the list go on and on. Obviously, I am not the producer or the director, so my ideas are not valued. My point is that the film industry needs to stop focusing on making money and make film adaption that readers will go "YES I CAN SEE HIM/SHE PLAYING blah blah blah". Do not cast actors that play the character just because they are famous or rising actors. Choose actors, whose going to play the part right, and hopefully look the part too. I know I am a wishful thinker. Ugh, I mean look at Elena Gilbert from Vampire Diaries. In the books, she is suppose to be blonde, but she ended up in the show to be a brunette. In the end, it did not matter, because she is a perfect Elena! The fans were upset at first, but then pleased that she captured the role nicely.
Sorry, I have been rambling on for the last two paragraphs. I get so frustrated when the books turn into movies, especially if its books I love. Sometimes I think they do a good job, other times I think they totally want this to become a franchise, and most times I say, "WTF, this is nothing like the books!" If you disagree or agree with what I said, please let know by leaving some comments in the the comment box.
The ONLY one upcoming YA movie that I think I might be happy about called Maze Runner by James Dashner. I will do a review on it. Honestly, I am biased on this one, because my favorite British actor is in it: Kaya Scodelario.
Here are the list of POSSIBLE UPCOMING YA MOVIES!
The 5 (pronounced as 5th) Wave by Rick Yancey
Gallagher Girls Series by Ally Carter
Liv, Forever by Amy Talkington
Elusion by Clauldia Gabel & Cheryl Klam
